The film follows Fred, a busker, and his cat Tabby McTat who enjoy a contented life singing on the streets of London to delighted audiences. One day when chasing a thief, Fred falls and breaks his leg and is whisked away in an ambulance. As they all consider the best course of action, the relationship between the three friends is put to the t...。1940年代初，浙东某山村的童养媳竺春花（谢芳）因不堪虐待逃入某个越剧戏班，与教戏师傅的女儿邢月红（曹银娣）结为姐妹。不久，攻旦的春花和习生的月红双双成为戏班台柱。戏班在绍兴演出时，当地豪绅企图凌辱月红，为掩护她，春花被人绑在桥头示众，邢师傅也被打致死，临终前，邢师傅嘱附两人要“认认真真唱戏，清清白白做人”。戏班到上海后很快唱红，戏院唐经理想借上演淫秽剧目捞取更多银子，被春花严词拒绝，但月红却贪慕虚荣堕落成为唐经理的玩物，姐妹因此反目，但两人的情分并没到此终结。。
